The seniors at Waltrip High School, who are unable to have a traditional graduation ceremony because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will instead parade through the Oak Forest neighborhood.
Waltrip’s 2020 Parade of Graduates will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, with the route starting at the corner of Lamonte Lane and Oak Forest Drive. The school’s seniors and their families will drive south down Oak Forest Drive before turning east on Judiway Street, south on Ella Boulevard and proceeding to the back entrance of the Waltrip campus.
Parade participation is limited to seniors and their families, who must use only one vehicle and remain in that vehicle throughout the parade. Neither walking, nor the use of bicycles, motorcycles, ATVs or recreational vehicles, is allowed. Parade drivers must have valid driver’s licenses as well as auto registration and insurance, and all traffic laws must be observed.
Students are asked to wear caps and gowns or school colors. They also are encouraged to decorate their vehicles appropriately for the occasion.
Parade participants are asked to line up at facing east on Lamonte near its intersection with Oak Forest Drive at 6 p.m. A student ID must be displayed for entry into the parade.
Residents along the parade route are welcome to go outside and cheer for the graduates but are asked to practice social distancing.
